Programs at
our Kindergarten

Educators, with parents’ assistance, support children to acquire skills and knowledge. The child’s progress will be recorded and communicated to parents on a regular basis through a variety of methods (observations, interviews with parents and children, pictures of learning moments, samples of work, check lists and portfolios). Portfolios will be given to children during their farewell session. A Statement of Learning is written for each child exiting the preschool and is shared with the child’s parent/caregiver and the school. The kindergarten staff also meets with the reception class teacher of the chosen school (if possible) to further support the child in smoother transition.

 
The Early Years Learning Framework (Belonging Being and Becoming)

Belonging’ is about knowing who you are and where you ‘belong’. Having a secure sense of belonging is the basis for living a fulfilled life.

Children feel that they ‘belong’ because of the relationships they have with their family, community, culture and place (EYLF Information for families).

‘Being’ is about enjoying the present and being accepted for who you are and supported to meet challenges.… children need time to just ‘be’—time to play, try new things and have fun (EYLF Information for families).

‘Becoming’ is about how children change and grow and learn to participate fully and actively in society.

Children start to form their identity from an early age, which shapes the type of adult they will become (EYLF Information for families).

 

Services available at the centre

Each child and child’s family will be supported at the centre according to their needs.
Preschool bilingual support may be available for children from culturally and linguisically diverse backgrounds who are learning English as an additional language/dialect.

Speech and or language support may be available for children who present with speech and or language difficulties. 

The kindergarten team actively woks with external services such as Novita, Autism SA, NDIS, Talking Matters and more. The parents need to consent for their children to have additional support.

 

Celebrations at kindy

We are happy to celebrate special occasions, e.g. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Christmas, at the centre. We often celebrate these events with food. For these occasions, the served food might belong to “sometimes group of food”.  The Elizabeth East Kindergarten team encourages the celebration of birthdays with healthy food, but respects parents’ wishes.

We have a community library which is sponsored by Raising Literacy. Families are encouraged to borrow books for your children to read with you at home. Once you have finished reading , return the books and borrow some more to read at home.
School visits

Children will have the opportunity to visit the resource centre and listen to a story read by the teacher/librarian at Elizabeth East School (the local school). A small group of children visits junior primary (J.P) classes on a regular basis. J.P classes visit and actively participate in the EEK’s learning provocations.

 

Transition to school

Parents are responsible to enrol children to school they will choose for their children. The preschool staff offers to invite the school teachers to support easy transition and familiarisation. Parents need to be aware of school’s priority of access as there are possibilities that the child may not be able to attend the school of their choice.
